Now you have chosen which flower varieties to grow in your garden, you need to work out where to buy them. In the UK we are fortunate to have access to a huge selection of small and large seed suppliers. But it can be quite overwhelming knowing where to start! Ultimately, choosing seeds well will help maximise your blooms. For example, Lots of the seeds sold by UK suppliers have been grown in the UK, and therefore thrive in our climate. Others will guarantee germination rates to avoid disappointment. You can also learn to save your own seed and save money in the long run!
Key points to consider when choosing a seed supplier:
- Variety selection: Do they offer a wide range of flower varieties, including common and unique speciality options?
- Quality and freshness: Do they prioritise seed quality and freshness, with clear information about seed viability ie collection and expiry dates
- Organic options: Do they offer a selection of certified organic seeds?
- Customer service: Are they known for helpful advice and support?
- Local sourcing: Do they prioritise locally grown seeds where possible?
To help you out, I have summarised my favourite flower seed suppliers for you below:
Alma Proust
Hands down my favourite place to buy the most beautiful flower seeds. Paris and Milli are huge advocates of seasonal and sustainable flowers, and so much care goes into everything they do. The packets are little pieces of art work and the selection of varieties is perfect. Plus they stock Floret seeds!
Chiltern Seeds
Chiltern have a huge range of flower seeds to choose from, including popular varieties and unusual ones too. I can pretty much guarantee you will be able to find flower types and colours you want to grow here.
Vital seeds
Soil Association certified organic, plus they are plastic free and none GMO. Open-pollinated varieties for seed saving saves you money in subsequent seasons. A more limited selection of cut flowers but fantastic quality and good for the planet.
She Grows Veg
The clue is in the shop name, but I mainly shop here for vegetable seeds, but they stock some lovely edible flowers and companion plants that deter pests.
Roger Parsons Sweet Peas and English Sweet Peas
Two fantastic sweet pea suppliers so whether you want a specific colour scheme, the longest stems, the best scent or the most frills, they have you covered. I have almost 30 varieties for 2025 and I can’t wait to share them with you all. My germination so far from these 2 suppliers has been 100%!
Thompson & Morgan
A larger company, but they have a wide range of popular garden flowers and plenty of bargains to be had if you are on a budget
